What's going on here then?
Right. We've been married for exactly 50 days today. Just before we got married, I had my Mirena coil removed because we had already decided we wanted to start trying for a baby straight away. Trying. Couldn't start too soon. I mean, I was already 34 and my mum had had serious fertility problems. I was convinced it was going to take a lot of trying before we struck lucky.
Secretly, I was hoping for a honeymoon baby, but I obviously had no idea whatsoever when I was going to ovulate. Towards the middle of our honeymoon, I got my period. I was quite disappointed, but the upside was that I could drink without feeling guilty!
When we got back from honeymoon, I was convinced we'd have a long time ahead of us with monthly disappointments and lots of optimistic attempts at creating our offspring. A week or two later, I started getting really sore boobs, so I knew my period was due.
Two weeks later I still had sore boobs and R was impressed with their increasing size. We waited for my period to come. And waited. And waited. Finally, I bought a Clear Blue Digital test as I'd heard they were the most accurate.
This last week, I kept getting out the test, but R wanted to wait a bit longer. We agreed to wait till the weekend. So yesterday, Saturday, I leapt out of bed, bursting for the loo and, clutching the Clear Blue test in one hand and supporting my boobs with the other arm, ran to the loo. R looked a bit overwhelmed. I know I certainly was! I'd dreamt about doing the test and it being negative, so with a shaking hand I held the little stick underneath me and tried hard not to wee on my hand. It said to wait 20 - 30 seconds, so I laid the test in front of me and finished up. As I reached for the toilet paper, I glanced over and it said 'Pregnant'. I did a double take. 'Pregnant'. It was still there, 8 innocuous little letters. Bloody hell.
I sprinted out of the loo, holding out the test to R. "Uh-oh." Then we looked at each other and just started laughing hysterically. How did we manage that one?? Every time we stopped laughing, we'd look back at the test and start again. Finally R smirked and said, "I've got super sperm." He looked so proud!
Almost 36 hours later, I'm still incredulous. I'm pregnant. Me!
